I've been painting and drawing since I was a lilttle kid and I'm pretty much self-taught. I did take art in high school and a couple of classes in college but I haven't had any "real" formal training. Raising three kids and working all these years didn't allow me much time. Working for a Police Department as a dispatcher for almost 30 years, didn't work out well for trying to schedule art classes, since my hours at work changed constantly, plus it wasn't unusual to work 12 or 16 hours a day. Now that I'm finally retired, I may take some classes, but then again I may not as I really enjoy experimenting on my own. Plus, I think if someone else shows you how to paint, you could end up painting like them and lose your artistic identity, thus, justifying to myself that it is not that good an idea to take lessons. So, my motto is 'lay down the paint and see what develops'. Of course it always comes out different and if it turns out good I'm lucky if I can remember what I did for next time. I have no real style...I'm a lost artistic soul who paints and draws because I love it. Two of my children are artistic as well. Suzanne and Neil Blender. Neil (who you may be familiar with) is a skateborder and an artist. He sells some of his artwork on ebay, does commissioned artwork and does have art showings now and then.
